In June 2013, Google Ireland opened the doors to its thriving new campus: Four buildings located in the heart of Dublin’s historic docklands district. With over 47’000 m2 of unique office space, the Campus represents the Google EU Head-quarters and serves as the center for sales and finances in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
Continue readingThe existing house was dark and poor cross ventilation. Therefore we propose a new concept to have large windows, but at the same time filtering the heat from the sun. The stairs acts as an airwell with a skylight and ventilation vents.Thus improving the air circulation in the house keeping it constantly cool. The screen on the external facade not only acts as shade from the sun but also giving privacy for the user as the neighbouring houses are built closely to each other.
Continue readingThe Architecture Factory is a third level architectural education, learning and research space situated in a disused split-level warehouse in Cork, Ireland. The interior architectural intervention adapts used shipping containers into lecturer offices dividing the ground floor space into 7 open plan studios. These are divided from a new mezzanine structure by a wide boulevard which functions as a live lab, exhibition and making space. The mezzanine cantilevers over this space creating online learning facilities above seminar rooms, storage, photo labs and studios bookending the enclosures.
Continue readingPinkeye was asked to convert an existing but worn down store space into a hip ‘talk of the town’ sneaker store, on a shoestring - no pun intended. We came up with the idea of the typical classroom as a setting for trés cool sneakers, and as luck would have it we stumbled upon an abandoned school building that was selling off it’s old class and gym furniture for nickels and dimes. At first we had to convince the shop owner, a skate veteran himself, of this 'old skool' design but really soon he totally loved it, creating new fans every day.
Continue readingThe Aldar Headquarters designed by MZ Architects has a distinctive and innovative design: a semispherical building comprising two circular convex shaped facades linked by a narrow band of indented glazing. This iconic fully glazed structure is completely circular in elevation and curved in all other directions. The ideas of simplicity, purity and learning from nature, were the main principles of the concept, coupled with the reliance on one of the oldest rules of architecture: that of proportion. The result is an extremely pure geometrical but daring design.
Continue readingThe Golden West Bay concept exemplifies a pure geometrical scenario tailored by a clear physical language. The diagonal cut of one pure rectangle and the sliding of the parts resulted in a striking, modern three-dimensional image. The two sliding parts challenge gravity and embrace one another through a joint. This innovative design approach creates an eye-catching structure that stands out from the rest. By forming this elegant and monumental silhouette, the building is seen to celebrate the strength of monolithic symmetrical sculptures which in turn symbolize power.
